With our background, we are able to modify a BIOpolymer PLA into a PLA-Premium and improve its properties such as:

  • Higher barrier OTR/WVTR than PLA
  • Thermal stability and improved mechanical properties
  • Tunable transparency
  • Good processability

Their material is biobased and biodegradable. Biobased from the origin because they are produced by corn, sugar cane, and sugar beet as well as biodegradable. However, their add value is that this material is also compostable. The material goes down by 100% within six months in an industrial composting process. A process that will help to fulfill the EU´s Strategy of plastic reduction, which will enter into force in 2021 and 2030 while they are caring for the environment.

The PLA-Premium technology is patented and ADBioplastics has the exclusive license for its commercial exploitation worldwide.

All these improved properties meet the requirements demanded in the following sectors: packaging (food and cosmetic), construction and building, and 3D Printing, where we aim to become a benchmark company converting the highest quality bioplastics on the market, thanks to our PLA-Premium.

This spin-off was founded in 2015 and since then, has had exponential growth. In 2017 ADBioplastics was awarded an Honourable Mention in the “New Plastics Economy Innovation Prize 2017” of Ellen Macarthur Foundation and more recently, as the best startup in the V Investment Forum by ESIC Business & Marketing School.

Besides, it has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 SME instrument, which amounts to more than one million euros to realize this project and guarantee the sustainability of the planet. Currently, it is in phase 2.
